Will AI replace your jobs: What you need to know as a digital marketer

“AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization,” Elon Musk.

Meta recently laid off around 8000 people to “run more efficiently” with the increasing AI-related expenses. Is the doom’s day finally coming for humans?

Human civilization has always found itself in the middle of transformation. Be it the advent of electricity, radio, television, automobiles, or the internet, humanity is ever-evolving and adapting.

As we find ourselves surrounded by new technology, AI stands out in both scale and application.

What is AI?

AI, or artificial intelligence, is a simulation of human intelligence, in a very basic sense.

Of course, we can go for deeper and more technical definitions, but let us keep it at this layman’s definition for now.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence:

AI has very expansive and extensive applications. From simple data entry to advanced decision-making in stock trading and consulting, artificial intelligence has revolutionized the way we complete tasks and make decisions.

So, if artificial intelligence can and will do all the tasks that humans do, will it eventually replace humans?

Will humans lose their jobs due to AI?

Sadly, yes.

Many jobs WILL be lost. Job roles like data entry, simple writing jobs, cashiers, customer service, basic coding, basic accounting, paralegals, and repetitive and easily replicable jobs WILL be lost.

Yes, AI can do repetitive and mundane tasks. But AI cannot replace human creativity, innovation, or teamwork.

Roles will transform, with a need for upskilling and integrating AI in day-to-day work, but a complete loss of human touch is unlikely.

What does this mean for a digital marketer?

Digital marketing is one industry that requires a lot of collaboration and cross-functionality. Expecting an AI tool to deal with clients and manage teams of writers, social media executives, SEO managers, and developers is a far-fetched dream.

It requires a human to patiently deal with client complaints, user feedback, ideate, and see the end-to-end cycle of content creation or a massive social media campaign.

Nevertheless, digital marketers who do not integrate AI in their work, or worse, do not learn about AI vis-à-vis digital marketing, will be left behind.

What can you do now as a digital marketer to be AI-proof?

The best way to keep your job AI-proof is to become a part of the AI ecosystem.

Learn AI, learn its applications in the digital marketing world, and implement them.

Learn, integrate, and implement.

Educate your teams, have them use AI tools like OwlyGPT and Jasper, and make AI a core component of your task management.

In the 90s, when Microsoft Office launched, everyone shared similar fears. We will lose our jobs. We will no longer be able to use these new tools. Look, we are still here with our jobs, and are using MS Office products very efficiently.

Let us not fear change. Instead, let us embrace change to better ourselves and to increase our productivity.
